The number of horses being kept barefoot has grown considerably
over the last few years. Contrary to popular belief, horses and ponies
can not only be kept barefoot but can also be ridden and compete barefoot.
In order to achieve
maximum benefit from keeping a horse or pony barefoot, consideration has to be given on how the horse or pony is kept and
what they are fed.
Nick is a Certified Practitioner with the Association for the Advancement of Natural Horse Care Practices (AANHCP). This method of barefoot hoofcare is based on the wild horse model.
In addition to offering a barefoot hoofcare service, Nick can also advise on the overall keep of your horse or pony in order
to achieve the maximum benefit of keeping your horse or pony barefoot.
What Is The AANHCP? The AANHCP is the
leading pioneer of "natural equine care", basing its philosophy, methods, advocacy, and research goals on credible
science and on our working model - the US Great Basin wild, free-roaming horse.
The AANHCP was founded by Jaime
Jackson, and others, in 2002. Farriers may remember Jaime as a guest presenter at the 1988 AFA Convention in Lexington,
Kentucky. He was joined then by Leslie Emery, author of the great text, "Horseshoeing Theory & Hoofcare".
The two hour presentation was about the hooves of US Great Basin wild horses, and what they mean for domestic horses. You
might say, that AFA lecture spawned the current worldwide interest in "natural hoof care"! A few years after
Lexington, Jaime's own book was published, "The Natural Horse: Lessons From the Wild". That really got things
pumping!
Nick is also able to offer advice on the various types of horse
boots available, helping to ensure that there is a smooth transition to keeping your horse or pony barefoot.
If you would
like to know more about this method of barefoot hoofcare please view the AANHCP website or call me
