The Paddock Paradise is a concept for keeping domesticated
horses in an environment that sets out to mimick as closely as possible, their life in the wild.
The primary intention of the Paddock Paradise set-up is to
encourage behavioural movement and socialisation and more natural feeding patterns. This in turn lends itself to
helping maintain not only the horses hooves but their mental and physical overall wellbeing.
The CloverRose Equine Paddock Paradise was first started over six years ago
and continues to develop. This gives us a wealth of experience on the ups and downs of keeping horses in this manner.
We started out here in the Highlands
with good draining land with traditional paddocks and began the change to a Paddock Paradise after reading Jaime Jackson's
Paddock Paradise book.
Initially
our first move was to create a ring around the outside of the existing paddocks, utilising ground that we had previously
considered as too "rough" for horses. The creation has now grown to incorporate natural features within the
property, including the use of numerous amounts of natural stone that have been spread on the track to improve natural conditioning
of the hoofs and the provision of a natural water source.
The creation continues to develop and evolve and now features an additional smaller "paradise" within the larger
initial one. We are now working on improving the grasses and plants available within the paradise and adding additional
trees. At the same time we continue to monitor the positive improvements that we are seeing in the physical and mental wellbeing of the horses and the improvements in their hooves.
